CELTIC FROST Frontman Comments On Differences Between His Main Musical Projects
April 13, 2002Following the recent reports that APOLLYON SUN guitarist Erol Unala would be contributing to the forthcoming CELTIC FROST album alongside the classic three-piece line-up of Tom Gabriel Fischer (guitar/vocals),Reed St. Mark (drums) and Martin Ain (bass),Fischer (who is himself a member of both acts) posted the following message on the official CELTIC FROST web site at www.celticfrost.com outlining the differences and similarities between the two bands:
“I view both bands as very separate units, even though they do of course share common ground, and AS was once formed to operate like a technically more cutting-edge extension of some of CF's facets. AS has, however, matured into its very own and obvious style over the years, regardless of the many parallels. Part of the reason for this is that AS was co-developed by musical contributors who had nothing to with CF, and - at times - weren't too familiar with much of CF's music.
“There were actually a number of songs Erol and I wrote for AS that sounded way too much like CF and therefore were never used for AS. There is a very limited exchange of material between the two bands, but the reappearance of CF with its own, very unique and very distinctive chemistry between CF's members serves to create a wealth of new, original music. A marked exception are the songs originally developed for the last, unreleased CF album in 1992, some of which we had re-adapted for AS but are now using for FROST in completely re-written versions.
“APOLLYON SUN is currently intended to be an ongoing project once the CF album is well underway. Much of the follow-up album to Sub is written, and we will look into more details regarding the business side of things once the time for it is right. I owe AS, and the people involved in AS, a *lot*, and it has been an extremely educational experience to be a part of that project so far. And lots of fun, too!”
